Recap

The season of perfection. It began with an omen — both previous champions had risen from seventh the year before, and last year's seventh was Godden and Wise — and a draft full of storylines: Archie Littlejohn returning from injury to make Will Mumme the number one pick "2 years running," first-year captain Adam Dickson dialling in by video to select Declan Croucher, Will Burgess suffering "the misfortune of being picked up by the commissioner," and Jonathan Kierce taking loose cannon Lachy Godden with the final pick amid unconfirmed bribery rumours. What followed was history. Luke Sharrock and Angus Hume simply never lost — minor premiers at 8-0, then through the finals untouched for the league's first perfect season, 11-0. Not even Sharrock's semi-final ankle injury (sustained playing beer pong, replaced by emergency captain Charlie Simpson) could slow Pink down. The counter-narrative was just as good: Kierce dragged Godden and seventh-placed White through a quarter-final tiebreak and past Orange — Gorton and Kierce meeting in a three-set finals epic for the third straight year — before the fairytale fell 6-4 7-6(3) in the decider. The MVP count produced the closest finish ever: Dickson 41, Gorton 40, Sharrock 40, a first-season captain crowned by a single vote after leading Green to second. A perfect team, a near-perfect fairytale, and a one-vote MVP: Season 4 had everything.

How votes work: Season 1 used 2 (best) / 1 (second) per match plus a Player-of-the-Round bonus. From Season 2 onward, two voters each award 3-2-1 per match — a maximum of 6 per match. Career totals and the all-time boards count Season 1 era-adjusted onto that scale — a 2 counts as 6, a 1 as 4 — so a best-on-court night weighs the same in every era; season pages and the S1 MVP tally show the votes as cast. Finals are voted separately, 4-3-2-1, for the Finals MVP; those votes never count toward the season MVP.

Fill-in nights are excluded — those votes were earned for another team.
