The self-inflicted chaos is the point — this is a man whose racquet-destruction habit earned him an official league recommendation to visit Specsavers, who went from back-to-back appearances in Archie's Abysmals to earning three votes in a single round, and whose Season 2 signing was greeted by analyst Ed Simpson with "Lachy is lucky that everyone will be drafted." Even his Season 4 selection came shrouded in unconfirmed bribery rumours. And yet: picked up last by Jonathan Kierce, the loose cannon became the fairytale, battling through a quarter-final tiebreak and a semi-final upset to drag seventh-placed White all the way to the grand final, where Pink's perfect season only just survived him.
